DISINFECTION AND STERILISATION OF COSMETIC TOOLS

Metal tools should be decontaminated before use.

Steps in the treatment of manicure/pedicure tools:

● washing

● disinfection

● sterilisation

After the service has been completed, all tools should be considered contaminated and must undergo a new sterilisation procedure. This procedure is also necessary before working with new tools.

After use, tools must be cleaned of any organic, varnish or acrylic residues and placed in an ultrasonic cleaner with a cleaning and disinfecting solution.

In selecting disinfectants, care should be taken to ensure the maximum possible broad-spectrum action against enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, fungi and yeasts, bacteria and mycobacteria.

The best results are obtained using ultrasonic baths.

PLEASE NOTE! When disinfecting, strictly observe the preparation instructions for the chosen disinfectant! Failure to observe the instructions regarding the preparation, exposure time, temperature and concentration can lead to corrosion and loss of cutting properties. Tools that are rusty or show other signs of corrosion should have the corrosion removed or be discarded. Do not disinfect rusty and non-rusty tools in the same bath.

After the disinfection procedure, the tools must be rinsed with water to remove any residual disinfectant. After rinsing, the tools must be completely dried, by using a dust-free towel for example and then the moving parts should be lubricated with medical-grade paraffin. Metal tools are suitable for high-temperature sterilisation in a Class B autoclave.

Tools should be sterilised in a sterile barrier (paper-foil bags or sleeves) to ensure continued sterility after the sterilisation and during storage. Tools should be sterilised only in functioning autoclaves with a valid inspection certificate and only using demineralised or distilled water of a purity specified by the autoclave manufacturer. The use of water of poor quality may cause corrosion or other damage to the tool.

We do not recommend using ball sterilisers. These may cause mechanical damage and/or insufficiently sterilise the tools. Inadequate washing or disinfection of tools after use, or skipping one of the steps described significantly reduces the effectiveness of the sterilisation and may cause corrosion.

During tool treatment it is important to:

● Use personal protective equipment (headgear, mask, long rubber gloves, waterproof apron);

● Not use brass/copper brushes or metal sponges for cleaning;

● Not use alcohol-based products;

● Ensure that the temperature of the disinfectant solution does not exceed 40C;

● Not use chlorinated water to prepare a disinfectant solution or to rinse tools.

The Semilac brand is not liable for damage to tools as a result of a failure to comply with the rules of disinfection and sterilisation. Tools retain their corrosion resistance only if all rules and instructions are followed and provided that high quality and certified cleaning and disinfecting agents are applied. It is essential to follow any instructions and procedures attached to disinfectant preparations and sterilisation devices.
